Supporting Young People Like Keira

One such young person that Balloons have supported is Keira, youngest sibling to Lauren, our Club Chair & Head Coach. Keira, who was just 13 in 2021 when her dad tragically passed away after a battle with cancer. Losing a parent at such a young age is a devastating experience, but thanks to the incredible support from Balloons, Keira was able to start processing her grief with the help of Balloons trained and experienced volunteers. Balloons provided her with one-to-one post-bereavement support during her final years of high school, helping her cope with her emotions and stay focused on her studies.
Now that Keira has completed her one-to-one sessions, she will continue to receive support from Balloons over the next two years, in the form of different activities and activity days. These activity days bring together children and young people who have experienced similar losses, offering them a chance to engage in positive activities, have fun, and connect with others who understand their journey.
Keira’s story is just one example of the many young lives that Balloons supports. Thanks to their help, she was able to push forward with her education, recently achieving outstanding GCSE results, with numerous 9s and 8s. Balloons has been instrumental in helping her find direction and strength during one of the most challenging times of her life.
Why Your Participation Matters
By participating in our charity tournament, you’re not just playing netball—you’re directly supporting Balloons and their mission to help children and young people like Keira across Devon. As a small, local charity that relies entirely on grants and donations, Balloons needs our support to continue providing their life-changing services.
In the words of Balloons: "Raising funds is critical to enable us to help more children and young people. Every year we need to raise enough money to cover our costs. As a small, local charity, run entirely on grants and donations, this is challenging. Every penny raised enables us to deliver our service and make a real difference to bereaved children and young people. Thank you so much for wanting to support Balloons."
How You Can Get Involved
If you’re interested in joining our charity tournament, your involvement will have a profound impact. You’ll be helping to fund essential services that support children and young people in Devon as they navigate some of the hardest moments of their lives. Together, we can make a real difference.
