Are you ready to take your netball game to the next level? Joining a new club and navigating trials can be both exciting and nerve-wracking. At Cranbrook Arrows Netball Club, we're committed to providing a supportive and inclusive environment for players to showcase their skills and thrive. To help you feel confident and prepared for trials, we've put together a guide to Cranbrook Arrows Netball Club trials, packed with tips, insights, and key attributes we'll be looking for in players.
Understanding the Process:
Trials serve as an opportunity for us to assess your abilities, suitability for our teams, and overall compatibility with our club culture. Our selection process is guided by our Selection Policy, which emphasises fairness, transparency, and the overall development of players.
Key Attributes We're Looking For:
1. Respect: Show respect for the game, officials, coaches, teammates, and opponents. Trust and support are essential elements of a successful team dynamic.
2. Pride: Take pride in your performance and represent our club with integrity and enthusiasm. Your dedication and positive attitude set the tone for the entire team.
3. Resilience: Netball can be challenging, but how you respond to setbacks defines your character. Demonstrate resilience in the face of adversity and strive to overcome obstacles with determination.
4. Coachability: Be open to feedback, willing to learn, and adaptable to new strategies and techniques. A growth mindset is key to continuous improvement and success on the court.
5. Commitment: Show commitment to training, matches, and the overall development of the club. Your dedication and reliability are integral to the team's success.
6. Accountability: Take responsibility for your actions on and off the court, and contribute positively to the club environment. Uphold our Code of Conduct and lead by example.

What to Expect at Trials:
Once you arrive, you'll have the chance for a warm-up, and balls will be provided. We encourage players to warm up suitably and participate in some trialist-led ball drills with other trialists. Top Tip- This is your chance to showcase your team-player skills and leadership abilities by setting up mini drills with the rest of the trialists! Once warmed up, we'll get into gameplay. There will be a series of 10-minute, one-way games held, and our selectors will be assessing players' performance during these games. Be sure to familiarise yourself with the printout detailing who is expected on court, in which colour bib, and which position for each game. Keep an eye on the game rotation so you know when you're due on court.
If you need to speak with a selector or a member of the committee, we'll make ourselves known, and don't worry—we won't bite! There will be umpires controlling the games, and several first-aid qualified members will be available should you require any assistance. Trials will last between 1.5 to 2 hours.

Tips for Standing Out to Selectors:
1. Arrive Punctually: Being punctual demonstrates your professionalism and commitment to the trials. Arriving on time or early sets a positive tone for your participation.
2. Offer to Fill Vacant Positions: Show your adaptability and team spirit by volunteering to play in positions that need filling, even if they're not your usual role. This willingness to contribute wherever needed can make a strong impression.
3. Show Engagement: Stay actively involved throughout the trials by participating in activities, cheering on other trialists, and contributing to discussions. Your enthusiasm and energy can showcase your passion for the sport.
4. Help Others: Demonstrate leadership qualities by assisting fellow trialists, offering support, and fostering teamwork during drills and games. This collaborative attitude highlights your ability to work well with others.
5. Build Rapport: Forge positive connections with both trialists and selectors by engaging in friendly interactions and demonstrating genuine interest in the club and its members. Building rapport can make you memorable to decision-makers.
6. Demonstrate Active Listening: Pay close attention to instructions, feedback, and observations from coaches and selectors. Show that you're receptive to guidance and eager to learn and improve.
7. Take Feedback Well: Accept feedback graciously and demonstrate your ability to apply suggestions and adjust your gameplay accordingly. Showing a willingness to learn and grow can impress selectors and indicate your coachability.
By incorporating these tips into your approach during trials, you'll not only stand out to selectors but also showcase your readiness to contribute positively to the Cranbrook Arrows Netball Club
Successful Trialists:
If you're successful at trials, congratulations! You'll receive communication from our selectors confirming which team you've been placed into and outlining the next steps. We'll guide you through the process, including registration, training schedules, and all you need to know to become an official member of Cranbrook Arrows Netball Club. Get ready to embark on an exciting journey with us!
Unsuccessful Trialists:
While we'd love to accept everyone, unfortunately, we may not be able to accommodate all trialists. If you find yourself in this position, please don't be disheartened. There could be various reasons why you might not have been successful, but we'll do our best to provide constructive feedback to everyone we have to turn down. Remember, attending trials takes courage and determination, and we commend you for showing up and giving it your best. Take onboard any feedback provided as an opportunity for growth and improvement. We hold trials every year, so we welcome you to return again next year and showcase your skills once more!

If at any stage you'd like to contact the selectors, you can reach them via email at playersCANC@gmail.com.
